James E. Lewis, Jr. is a proud native of Ocean Springs with deep ties to the community and a lifelong commitment to service. After dedicating 30 years to the United States Army, where he retired as a Sergeant Major, James transitioned from military service to community leadership, continuing to serve with the same dedication and discipline that defined his career in the Army.
In addition to his military service, James is an active member of the Deacon Board at Macedonia Missionary Baptist Church, where he works to make a difference in the lives of others. As a passionate advocate, leader, and problem-solver, James is driven by a deep desire to ensure that all members of his community have the opportunity to thrive. His vision for Ocean Springs is rooted in fairness, opportunity, and transparency.
James’s leadership style is informed by his military experience, where he learned firsthand the importance of duty, honor, integrity, and selfless service. These values continue to guide his work today, shaping his commitment to fostering effective governance and a transparent, accountable city government. Whether addressing local issues or advocating for systemic change, James is dedicated to improving the quality of life for all residents.
James holds a Bachelor of Science degree in both Marketing and Management from McNeese State University, which he earned in 2002. This educational background, combined with his decades of leadership experience, positions him as a dynamic candidate capable of tackling the challenges facing Ocean Springs with a thoughtful, strategic approach.
As the second of twelve children born to the late Ida B. Joiner (John) and the late James E. Lewis. James has been shaped by the values of family, hard work, and perseverance. He is married to his loving wife, Loma Lewis, and together they share a strong commitment to their community and their faith.
James is running for Alderman to bring meaningful change to Ward 5 and the broader Ocean Springs community. As your representative, he will prioritize:
